Bears Add Draft-Caliber Talent During Rookie Minicamp: Examining the New Acquisitions

This weekend, the Bears signed six new players to their roster during a rookie minicamp. The team added wide receiver Freddie Swain, tight end Tommy Sweeney, wide receiver John Jackson, cornerback Leon Jones, defensive tackle Dashaun Mallory and linebacker Paul Moala to their squad. All of these players had initially been part of the minicamp as tryout players.

Freddie Swain is a wide receiver who has previous experience with the Seahawks where he recorded 38 catches for 502 yards and six touchdowns over 33 games in 2020 and 2021. On the other hand, Tommy Sweeney played in 24 games for the Bills from 2019 to 2022 but did not play last season after collapsing during a training camp practice with the Giants.

John Jackson played with Caleb Williams at USC in 2022 and went undrafted along with three other players last month. Despite going undrafted, these players had the opportunity to showcase their skills during the rookie minicamp and impressed the Bears coaching staff enough to earn contracts with the team.
