Bayside Hosts Inaugural Soccer Tournament: Local Sports, Job Prospects

Bayside Soccer hosted its inaugural soccer tournament on November 11th at the Hannahville Ice and Turf sports complex in Wells. The tournament featured three divisions of play for 12U, 14U, and 16U. Teams from Iron Mountain’s club 906 FC and Houghton FC also participated, along with teams from Bayside Soccer and its affiliate, Delta United Soccer Academy.

The main goal of the tournament was to create a fun and competitive event for players while raising funds for the high school team associated with Bayside Soccer. The organizer, Amy Blahnik, expressed excitement about hosting the tournament for the first time and indicated that they plan to have more in the spring and next fall.

During the tournament, teams played three-on-three games in a round-robin style of play, with the top two teams at the end of group play participating in a playoff game for first place. The 12U group was won by 906 FC, the 14U was won by Houghton FC Red, and the 16U winners were from Bayside – Delta United Soccer Academy.

Founded in 1996, Bayside Soccer’s mission is to provide recreational soccer for the region and offer a positive sports experience focused on player development, teamwork, and positive coaching. They offer programs such as summer recreation soccer and a High School Club program that competes regionally.

Delta United Soccer Academy operates under the umbrella of Bayside Soccer and runs both fall and winter/spring seasons. With almost 60 players aged 10 and older, the academy competes with other clubs in the UP
