Banamex to retain 22 million clients as Citi acquires 2 thousand in seamless transition

After the separation of Banamex from Citi as part of the sale of the Mexican bank, Banamex will retain 22 million clients while Citi will have 2 thousand clients. Manuel Romo, the general director of Citibanamex, stated that the transition will be smooth and that clients will not notice any changes in terms, conditions, benefits, or offers during this process. It has not been decided whether the initial public offering to divest from Banamex will take place in the United States stock market or in Mexico.

In an interview before the 87th Banking Convention in Acapulco, Romo mentioned that the relationship with Claudia Sheinbaum, Morena’s candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, was not affected by Citibanamex’s decision for her not to attend their meeting of regional councilors. He emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities in the current global context and expressed a positive outlook for Mexico’s economic growth. Romo also discussed the upcoming separation between Citibanamex and Citi.

Romo highlighted the opportunities for Mexico in terms of nearshoring and the importance of infrastructure development and security. He praised the country’s strong institutional foundations and emphasized the need to continue building on them. Romo also discussed the challenges that the next administration will face and expressed a willingness to support and collaborate with the government to address Mexico’s needs. He mentioned the possibility of a dialogue with Claudia Sheinbaum and emphasized the importance of maintaining open communication and partnerships for the future progress of the country.
