India’s Under-19 World Cup Pursuit Comes to an End: Stats

Australia Defeats India in Historic Fourth Under-19 World Cup Victory

Australia has won their fourth Under-19 World Cup title by defeating India by 79 runs. This victory is a historic achievement for the Australian team, as they have now won four titles in this competition, having previously won in 1988, 2002, and 2010. This win also marked the first time that Australia had defeated India in an Under-19 World Cup game since 1998. Prior to this win, India had won all six meetings between 2000 and 2022.

India’s captain Uday Saharan scored 397 runs, the second-most for a captain in a single edition. Despite losing the match, he set a new record for most runs scored by a captain in an Under-19 World Cup game. The Indian opening partnership against USA during a group stage game was their highest of the tournament at 46, marking the first time they failed to achieve at least a 50-run opening partnership at an Under-19 World Cup.

Australia’s final total of 253 for 7 against India was the highest by any team in an Under-19 World Cup final, surpassing England’s 242 for 3 in a chase against New Zealand in 1998. Only Pakistan has been able to defend their Under-19 World Cup crown since then, with both Australia and India finishing as runners-up in recent years.

This win was significant as it ended Australia’s losing streak against India in the Under-19 World Cup and was a historic achievement for both teams involved in this tournament filled with impressive statistics and accomplishments.
