Texas acquires former top-ranked junior through transfer portal

Arizona State Golf Star Brings Top-20 Finishes and Transfer Win to Texas Longhorns

Recently, Texas has secured a significant transfer in the form of Arizona State sophomore Luke Potter. Potter announced on Instagram that he would be joining the Longhorns next season, expressing gratitude towards Coach John Fields, Coach Erik Henson, and Clayton Brady for the opportunity. Despite not competing for over two months this season, Potter achieved five top-20 finishes while playing for the Sun Devils.

Ranked No. 59 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, Potter entered the transfer portal on May 8 and chose Texas as his destination. Coach Fields has a track record of success with transfers, having helped Gavin Hall achieve All-American honors in 2013 while playing for the Longhorns.

This fall season, Potter will join a Texas roster that includes rising juniors Tommy Morrison, Keaton Vo, and Jacob Sosa, rising sophomore Jack Gilbert, and incoming freshman Daniel Bennett. The Longhorns’ postseason lineup this season includes transfers Brian Stark and Nathan Petronzio, who are both fifth-year seniors.

NCAA regionals started on Monday with Texas hosting as a No. 3 seed in Austin, Texas, and Arizona State playing as the top seed in Rancho Santa Fe, California.
