Alzheimer’s Update: Neurological Scans and Cognitive Health

During a recent episode of “Breakfast With Bridgett,” a board-certified clinical neurologist from Health First discussed the latest advancements in brain health. Dr. Anthony LoGalbo emphasized that while specialized scans can help detect markers for Alzheimer’s, they are not a definitive diagnostic tool for the disease. Medications like Lecanemab can slow the progression of Alzheimer’s, but there is still no cure.

Dr. LoGalbo highlighted the importance of health maintenance and an active lifestyle in combating brain-related illnesses, including regular brain health evaluations. Viewers can access free memory screenings through Health First and learn more about their aging services on their website.

Neurological scans can provide insights into brain function by evaluating cognitive abilities such as learning, language skills, thinking speed, reaction time, and problem-solving. Dr. LoGalbo emphasized the significance of engaging in activities that challenge different parts of the brain and stepping out of one’s comfort zone to maintain cognitive health.

“Breakfast With Bridgett” airs on weekdays at 7:30 a.m., followed by additional programming about weather and safety. Viewers can watch the show on the free News 6 Plus streaming app for smart TVs or visit ClickOrlando.com for more information.
