Altoona’s Sarver Earns Spot on All-Conference Soccer Team
Recently, Slippery Rock University sophomore forward Morgan Sarver and five members of the Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball program were named to various postseason honors. Sarver, a graduate of Altoona Area High School, was recognized on the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women’s soccer all-conference team, earning a spot on the PSAC Western Division Second Team and starting in all 18 of her appearances. She finished third in the PSAC in shots and fourth in shots on goal, scoring six goals and nine assists for the Rock, tying for second place in team offensive points at 21.
On the other hand, Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball head coach Jamie McGreal was voted coach of the year by the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. Freshman outside hitter Lia Simanski, a graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School, was selected as the newcomer of the year. Additionally, four student-athletes from the team were recognized on the all-conference list: junior libero Anna Batrus received first-team All-AMCC selection, senior outside hitter Lacee Barnhart and Simanski were both second-team picks, and junior middle Makenna Port earned third-team recognition. Under McGreal’s leadership, the Lady Lions won their third conference championship.
Both teams had remarkable seasons with outstanding players and coaches who deserve recognition for their accomplishments.
