2024 Men’s Basketball Transfer Portal: JMU Looks to Strengthen Roster with New Additions Amidst Graduations and Coaching Changes

The transfer portal for the 2024 Men’s Basketball season is here and with JMU men’s basketball facing graduations and head coach Mark Byington’s departure, the Dukes are on the lookout for big moves to bolster their roster for next season.

One of the key returners for JMU is guard Xavier Brown, who announced he will be coming back for his junior year. Brown had a standout sophomore season and has the potential to be a standout player in the Sun Belt Conference. His scoring ability and defensive energy make him a key piece in JMU’s plans for the future.

As of now, there have been no new additions to JMU’s roster through the transfer portal. However, several departures have been made, including Terrence Edwards, Jaylen Carey, Raekwon Horton, and Justin Amadi. Each of these players brought something unique to the team and their absence will be felt.

Terrence Edwards is testing the NBA waters this offseason but remains in the transfer portal in case he decides to return to college basketball. Jaylen Carey, a key contributor as a freshman at Vanderbilt, and Raekwon Horton, a junior transfer from College of Charleston, are also on the move, looking to find new opportunities to showcase their talents on the court. Justin Amadi missed last season due to injury but is looking for a new start after being a consistent scorer and defender for JMU over three seasons.

It will be fascinating to see how JMU’s roster shapes up as they navigate college basketball transfers’ ever-changing landscape. Stay tuned for more updates on the 2024 Men’s Basketball Transfer Portal Tracker as more players make moves during this offseason.
