As a World War II veteran and avid Phillies fan, Paul Trumbetas turned 100 years old and had an unforgettable celebration at the Southeastern Veterans’ Center in Spring City, Chester County. Surrounded by military vehicles and the Phillie Phanatic, Trumbetas was honored for his service to the country.
The special event, organized as part of the Phillies Salute to Service program, was a result of a simple favor requested by Trumbetas’ daughter, Denise Selzer. The surprise party was a huge hit with Trumbetas, who was joined by his wife Barbara and youngest daughter, Fran Griffith.
The celebration included an honor guard, cake, ice cream truck and even a special appearance from Phillies legend Mickey Morandini who presented Trumbetas with the ball he will throw for the first pitch at a Phillies game.
As the party came to an end, Griffith expressed her happiness and gratitude for the unexpected celebration while Trumbetas shared his simple message for the Phillies on game day – “Keep hitting.” Reflecting on the incredible turnout and support from the community, Griffith cherished the memories from this once-in-a-lifetime event that truly made her father’s 100th birthday one for the ages.
